RAP-300-1U RAM® Power Plate™ III Universal Magnetic Holder

The RAP-300-1U is RAM Mounts' Power Plate III, a universal magnetic holder for radar detectors and similar devices. It is the larger version of the RAP-300U Power Plate II, so it suits bigger units, and it twists off the base for quick removal when you park. It mounts to a round base with a 4-hole AMPS pattern, such as the RAM-B-202U.

How It Works

The kit includes two rare earth magnets, a composite cradle, and one adhesive steel plate. You stick the 50mm x 38mm steel plate to the back of your device, then drop it onto the magnetic cradle. To take the device off, just twist it free. Simple, and no fiddling while you are on the road.

Works With

Any radar detector with a 102mm x 76mm (4" x 3") flat bottom surface. The Power Plate III is sized for larger units; for smaller devices, look at the RAP-300U, which uses a 2-hole diamond RAM-B-238U base with ball.

Good to Know

• Base recommendation: from customer experience, we strongly recommend mounting this to a RAM-B-202U base rather than the RAM-B-238U. If the system you are looking at uses a -238 base, no worries, we can supply the same setup with a -202 base for the Power Plate to sit on. Just ask.
• Hard drives: do not use the magnetic mount to hold any device with an internal hard drive, as the magnet may damage the drive. This includes older iPods and similar small battery-operated devices.

FAQs

How much weight can the magnet hold?
RAM does not publish a weight rating for the magnets themselves; their ratings are based on the ball-and-socket connection, not the magnetic plate. For reference, the diamond RAM-B-238U base used with the smaller RAP-300U is rated by RAM at 2 lbs (0.9 kg) for standard use and 1 lb (0.45 kg) for heavy-duty use. For this Power Plate III we recommend the RAM-B-202U base. In practice, the two rare earth magnets hold a radar detector securely.

What base do I need?
