The RAP-B-166-2-A-UN7U pairs the RAM® X-Grip® universal phone cradle with a low-profile RAM® Twist-Lock™ suction cup base and a short composite double socket arm. It's ideal for vehicle windscreens and other smooth, non-porous surfaces, with the short arm keeping everything tucked in close.

FAQs

Is this a complete mount? Yes. The low-profile suction base, short arm and X-Grip phone cradle are all included — there's nothing else to buy to get your phone onto the glass.

How is this different from the RAP-B-166-2-UN7U? Both kits use the same RAP-B-224-2U low-profile suction base and the same RAM-HOL-UN7BU X-Grip cradle. The only difference is the arm. This kit uses the RAP-B-201U-A short composite double socket arm; the RAP-B-166-2-UN7U uses the RAP-B-201-1U lightweight composite arm. The two are within a couple of millimetres of each other in length, so choose on the arm itself rather than expecting any real difference in reach.

What surfaces will the cup stick to? Glass and other smooth, non-porous surfaces. Textured dashboards, matte plastic and any surface with a grain won't hold — clean both the cup and the surface before mounting. A RAM® adhesive disk gives the cup a smooth face to grip on an otherwise unsuitable surface.

Is the smaller cup strong enough? For a phone on clean glass, yes. The 70mm cup takes up noticeably less of the windscreen than the standard 83.8mm base, which is the whole point of it — you get a tidier, less obtrusive mount. If you're mounting on rough roads, on a boat, or want the extra margin, the full-size RAM-B-166-A-UN7U kit is the more robust choice.

Will my phone fit with a case on? Measure the width of your phone with the case fitted. The cradle opens from 47.6mm to 82.6mm wide and takes devices up to 22.2mm thick, which covers most phones in a standard case. Thick rugged cases and battery cases are the usual exception.

Is the tether included? Yes. We'd recommend fitting it for off-road, marine and any other high-vibration use — it's cheap insurance if the phone is ever knocked loose.
