The RAM-GDS-DOCKL-AP37CD2U is the top of the AP37 Tough-Dock range. It is a spring-loaded vehicle dock that charges a large-format Apple iPad wrapped in an IntelliSkin® Next Gen sleeve, adds two USB Type-A ports for peripherals, and locks the tablet down with a keyed top latch. Worth knowing: unlike RAM's plain locking dock, this version uses the 60W dock cup, so the security does not cost you charging speed. Two keys are supplied.

Works With

Apple iPad Pro 12.9" (3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Gen), iPad Pro 13 and iPad Air 13, each wrapped in the matching IntelliSkin® Next Gen sleeve. The sleeve is not included and is required; the dock charges through the sleeve's pogo pins, not through the iPad's own port. The dock connects to RAM® ball and socket systems via a 4-hole AMPS pattern ball adaptor, sold separately. If the vehicle is never left unattended, the RAM-GDS-DOCK-AP37CD2U is the same dual-peripheral dock without the lock and costs less; if you want the lock but not the extra ports, the RAM-GDS-DOCKL-AP37CPU is cheaper again, though it charges at only 15W.

FAQs

Does the lock slow the charging down?

Not on this model. RAM's plain locking dock (RAM-GDS-DOCKL-AP37CPU) uses a 15W cup, but this one uses the 60W dual-peripheral cup, the same as the non-locking version. It is the one case in the AP37 range where you can have the lock and full charging speed together.

What can I plug into the two USB-A ports?

Anything the iPad would normally accept over USB; keyboards, barcode scanners, receipt printers, card readers. Each port supplies up to 900mA at 5V, which suits most handheld peripherals but is not enough to charge a second device.

Do I need an IntelliSkin sleeve as well?

Yes. The dock charges through the pogo pins on an IntelliSkin® Next Gen sleeve, so the iPad has to be wearing one. It is not included with the dock.

Do I need a special charger?

Yes; a Power Delivery (PD) charger is required to supply sufficient power to this dock.

Can I build this dock from parts instead?

Yes. It is assembled from the RAM-GDS-DOCKB-AP37U body, the RAM-GDS-DOCKLH2U locking top latch and the RAM-GDS-DOCK-V10PD2U power and dual USB-A dock cup. Buying the complete dock is usually cheaper; the parts route is for repairs and for reconfiguring a dock you already own.
